Are you an Australian business or organisation looking to bring in skilled overseas workers for training, short-term projects, or international collaboration? The Temporary Activities Sponsorship could be your key to unlocking global talent and boosting your workforce capability.

This sponsorship, valid for five years, allows approved Australian businesses to sponsor overseas workers under specific temporary visa categories, including:

  • Temporary Activity Visa (Subclass 408)

  • Temporary Work (International Relations) Visa (Subclass 403) under the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme

  • Training Visa (Subclass 407) — for structured, workplace-based training programs

Step 1: Become a Temporary Activities Sponsor

Before you can sponsor anyone, your business must first become an approved Temporary Activities Sponsor.

General Eligibility Requirements

To qualify, your organisation must:

  • Be lawfully established and operating in Australia

  • Have no adverse information recorded against it

  • Demonstrate financial and operational capacity to meet all sponsorship obligations

  • For Subclass 407 Training Visas, be capable of providing training directly (unless exempt as a Commonwealth Government agency)

Mandatory Documents

When applying for sponsorship approval, you’ll need to provide:

  • ABN registration certificate

  • ASIC company extract

  • Franchise agreement or trust deed (if applicable)

  • Lease agreement for business premises (if applicable)

  • Financial statements and tax returns for the last two financial years

  • Business activity statements (BAS) for the last four quarters

  • Additional evidence if your business has operated for less than 12 months

Step 2: Training Nomination Application (Subclass 407)

Once your sponsorship is approved, the next step is to nominate a training program for your overseas trainee.

You’ll need to submit:

  • A clear training purpose — whether for occupational registration, skills enhancement, or capacity building overseas

  • A training contract or agreement

  • Training location details and obligations

  • A structured training plan, outlining duties, learning outcomes, supervision, and duration

  • Trainer details, including their position, qualifications, and experience

Step 3: Training Visa Application (Subclass 407)

After the training nomination is approved, the nominated trainee can apply for the Training Visa (Subclass 407).

Trainee Eligibility Criteria

The trainee must:

  • Meet health and character requirements

  • Have Functional English proficiency

  • Hold a relevant background for the nominated training

  • Have adequate health insurance and a genuine intention to stay temporarily

Visa Benefits

Once granted, the Subclass 407 Visa allows the trainee to:

  • Undertake the approved training for up to two years

  • Bring eligible family members, who can work and study in Australia

  • Travel freely in and out of Australia while the visa remains valid

Why Apply for a Temporary Activities Sponsorship?

Becoming a Temporary Activities Sponsor offers multiple benefits for your organisation:

  • Develop future talent and upskill overseas employees

  • Build a pipeline of trained staff tailored to your business needs

  • Address short-term skill shortages while maintaining compliance with Australian standards

  • Enhance your company’s reputation as a compliant, growth-oriented business
