Subclass 482

This temporary visa lets an employer sponsor a suitably skilled worker to fill a position they can’t find a suitably skilled Australian to fill.

Streams

Visa Length

​

  • Up to 4 years, Hong Kong visa holders may stay up to 5 years

  • Potential pathway to permanent residency


Unique Features

​

  • Core Skills stream covers occupations on Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL)

  • Specialist Skills stream available for all ANZSCO major group 1,2,4,5 and 6​ occupations earning above the Specialist Skills income thresholds

  • Labour Agreement stream allows sponsorship under negotiated terms developed between the Australian Government (represented by the Department) and employers

  • Visa holders can only work for your sponsor or an associated entity unless exempt from this requirement in nominated occupation


Skill or Qualification Requirements

  • Have a relevant skills assessment if this is required for your occupation

  • Meet minimum standards of English language proficiency unless you are exempt from needing to show this

  • Must have relevant qualification and at least 1 year relevant work experience in your nominated occupation or a related field (experience may substitute for qualification for some occupations)

This visa enables regional employers to address identified labour shortages within their region by sponsoring skilled workers where employers can't source an appropriately skilled Australian worker.

  • If eligible, apply for permanent residence after 3 years from the time your visa is granted


Unique Features

  • Be nominated to work in an occupation on the relevant skilled occupation list

  • Labour Agreement stream allows sponsorship under negotiated terms developed between the Australian Government (represented by the Department) and employers

  • Visa holders can only work for your sponsor or an associated entity unless exempt from this requirement in nominated occupation

  • Be under 45 years of age, unless an exemption applies

  • Can live, work and study only in a designated regional area

This temporary visa lets an employer sponsor a suitably skilled worker to fill a position they can’t find a suitably skilled Australian to fill.

Visa Length

  • Permanently


Unique Features

​

  • Direct Entry stream covers occupations on Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) 

  • Temporary Residence Transition stream require you have worked in eligible sponsored employment for at least 2 years full time while holding a subclass 457 or 482 visa

  • Labour Agreement stream allows sponsorship under negotiated terms developed between the Australian Government (represented by the Department) and employers

  • Be under 45 years of age, unless an exemption applies


Skill or Qualification Requirements

​

  • Have at least 3 year relevant work experience in your nominated occupation or a related field and a relevant skills assessment under Direct Entry stream or if this is required for your occupation

  • Meet minimum standards of English language proficiency 

  • Must have relevant qualification and at least 3 year relevant work experience in your nominated occupation or a related field 

This visa allows you to take part in workplace-based occupational training activities to improve your skills for your job, area of tertiary study, field of expertise or in a professional development training program in Australia.

  • Do not directly lead to permanent residency

​

  • Training must be in an occupation listed on the relevant list and be for a genuine training purpose. 

  • Visa holders can only work for your sponsor or an associated entity

  • Intend to stay in Australia temporarily for training
