Student Visa - Subclass 500

 

You can participate in an eligible course of study in Australia and work up to 48 hours a fortnight when your course of study or training is in session.​

​

  • Be enrolled in a course of study in Australia

  • Be 6 years or older

  • Prove you have a welfare arrangement, if you are under 18

  • Be a genuine student

  • Hold Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), or fall in one of the exemption categories

  • Demonstrate that you have the financial means to cover your tuition fees, living expenses, and other costs while studying in Australia

  • Meet English language requirements

Temporary Graduate Visa - Subclass 485

​

A temporary visa that allows international students to live, study and work after you have finished your studies.

​​​

Post-Vocational Education Work

  • Stay up to 18 months. Hong Kong and British National Overseas passport holders may stay for 5 years.

  • Be 35 years of age or under when you apply (unless exemption applied)

  • Have held a Student visa in the last 6 months

  • Provide evidence of the required level of English in the 12 months immediately before the day you apply for your visa

  • Must hold a qualification relevant to your nominated​​ occupation on​ the ​​skilled occupation list​​​​

  • ​​​​​​​​​​​​Meet the Temporary Graduate visa study requirement with an associate degree, diploma or trade qualification only​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

  • Have applied for a skills assessment in your nominated occupation on the skilled occupation list

 

Post-Higher Education Work 

  • Usually between 2 and 3 years, depending on your qualification. Hong Kong and British National Overseas passport holders may stay for 5 years

  • Be 35 years of age or under when you apply (unless exemption applied)

  • Have held a Student visa in the last 6 months

  • Provide evidence of the required level of English in the 12 months immediately before the day you apply for your visa

  • Need a recent degree in​ CRICOS-registered course​

  • Meet the​​ Temporary Graduate visa study requirement with a degree level qualification or higher

Visitor Visa - Subclass 600

​

Visitor or Tourist visas are designed to allow people to travel to Australia as tourists, for business or to visit family.

​

  • Tourist: This stream lets you visit Australia as a tourist, to go on a cruise or to visit family and friends, or for purposes other than business or medical treatment.

  • Business Visitor: This stream is for business people travelling to Australia for a short business visit. This includes going to a conference, negotiation or meeting. 

  • Sponsored Family: This stream lets people who are sponsored, usually by a family member, come to Australia to visit their family members.

  • Frequent Traveller: This stream is for citizens of the People's Republic of China, Brunei, Cambodia, Philippines, Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam or Timor Leste who travel often to Australia for tourism or business visitor activities.

  • Approved Destination Status: This stream is for citizens from certain areas of China visiting Australia on a tour organised by an approved travel agent.

Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialist) Visa - Subclass 400

​

This visa lets you do short-term, highly specialised work in Australia. It is suitable if you have specialised skills, knowledge or experience not generally available in Australia. 

​​​​

  • Can stay up to 6 months (depending on the circumstances)

  • Have highly specialised skills, knowledge or experience that can help Australian business and can't reasonably be found in Australia

  • Only do the work or activities for which your visa was granted

  • Be a genuine visitor (stay temporarily in Australia and do the things you are allowed to do on this visa)

Highly Specialised Work: Applicants under this stream must work in highly specialised roles and require a letter of support from an Australian employer. The work or project should be short-term, rather than ongoing.

​

Australia’s Interests: Applicants under this stream must be carrying out work in Australia’s interests, such as roles related to trade interests.

Citizenship Application

 

You can become a citizen of Australia in different ways. You must meet our criteria before you apply. Conferral and descent are the most common ways to apply.

  • Permanent residents including New Zealand Special Category visa holders (by conferral)

  • ​Person 60 years or over (by conferral)

  • ​Your parent was an Australian citizen when you were born overseas (by descent)
