Tasmania State Nomination Program: Latest Updates & Migration Opportunities

The Tasmanian Government has announced that most of its 2025–2026 nomination allocation has been utilised.
While Registrations of Interest (ROIs) are still being accepted, applicants should note:
The number of new invitations will be significantly reduced
The state is prioritising the processing of existing applications
This means competition is now higher than ever, and strategic preparation is critical.
Subclass 190 Visa – Skilled Nominated Visa
Current Status:
Invitations for ROIs not meeting Gold Pass criteria are temporarily paused
Applicants can still submit ROIs, with updates expected in the coming weeks
For Green Pass applicants:
Invitations will continue within 6 months of submission
However, state nomination may not be granted this program year if quotas are exhausted
Subclass 491 Visa – Skilled Work Regional Visa
There is still opportunity under Subclass 491:
✔ Invitations continue across all pass categories
✔ Lower invitation volumes compared to previous periods
✔ Still a viable pathway for skilled migrants
National Innovation Visa (NIV) – A New Pathway for Top Talent
Tasmania has officially released its National Innovation Visa (NIV) policy and has begun nominating candidates.
Key Eligibility Requirements:
To be considered, candidates must:
✔ Demonstrate exceptional talent with internationally recognised achievements✔ Have an established relationship with a Tasmanian organisation, such as:
A government department or authority
University of Tasmania or affiliated research institutes
A Tasmanian business
✔ Be formally referred by a Tasmanian authority or institution
✔ Submit a business case via Form 1000
✔ Meet all Department of Home Affairs requirements
✔ Show a genuine commitment to live and contribute to Tasmania
