Update: South Australia Interim Migration Allocations For 2025-26

South Australia has recently received a limited interim allocation from the Australian Federal Government for its 2025-26 skilled and business migration program. Because this allocation is small, there will be some temporary changes in how the state processes applications.


What’s Changing


Registration of Interest (ROI) is temporarily closed for new applicants. South Australia’s Skilled & Business Migration (SBM) unit will not open new ROIs until further notice. Instead, the focus is on inviting strong candidates who align closely with the state’s workforce needs. This includes individuals who submitted ROIs during the 2024-25 program year, which may now be reconsidered or prioritised.


What’s Next


Once the Commonwealth Government confirms South Australia’s full allocation for 2025-26, SBM will publish full policy settings for the upcoming year. This will include which occupations are in demand, selection criteria, and how ROIs will be handled going forward.

If you were planning to submit a new ROI under SBM, here are a few suggestions given the current situation:

  • If you already lodged an ROI in 2024-25 and believe you match the eligibility / skills criteria, it’s worth staying alert, such applications may be among those invited under the interim allocation.

  • Keep your documents, skills, and qualifications ready and up to date in case you are invited.

  • Monitor announcements carefully, especially once the full allocation is released, since criteria and demand may shift.
