Australia’s migration landscape continues to evolve, and this week brings two key updates that skilled migrants and sponsoring employers should be aware of. The latest announcements from the Northern Territory Government and the Shire of Dardanup point to new opportunities, as well as important changes, in 2025– 2026.
Northern Territory Announces Skilled Migration Allocations for 2025–26
The Northern Territory Government has officially released its skilled migration allocation for the 2025–26 program year, offering a total of 1,650 nomination places. This reflects an overall increase of 50 places compared to the 2024–25 program.
Breakdown of the NT Allocation:
850 places – Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)
800 places – Skilled Work Regional Visa (Subclass 491)
This balanced allocation continues to highlight the NT’s priority of attracting skilled workers who can contribute to its regional growth, workforce stability, and long-term development.

Program Opening Date
The Northern Territory nomination program will officially open on 24 November 2025 to new onshore and offshore applications across all streams. Applicants are encouraged to review eligibility criteria and prepare supporting documents early to ensure readiness once submissions begin.
South-West DAMA to Transition to WA DAMA in December 2026
In a separate regional workforce update, the Shire of Dardanup has confirmed that the South-West Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA) will transition into the Western Australia DAMA starting December 2026.
What This Means for Employers and Workers:
Employers with existing Labour Agreements under the South-West DAMA will continue to access current occupations, concessions, and terms for as long as their agreements remain valid—even after the head agreement expires.
Visas granted under the South-West DAMA will remain fully valid for their complete duration.
The transition signifies a move toward a more unified DAMA framework for the broader WA region, improving access and consistency for employers seeking to fill critical skill shortages.
