Skilled Migration

Skilled migration has numerous pathways to allow skilled workers who wish to live and work in Australia. This visa type works on a points test system and is a gateway to attaining permanent residence in Australia.

189 Skilled-Independent Visa

 

The Skilled-Independent visa (subclass 189) is a permanent residence visa for points-tested skilled workers who want to work and live in Australia. To be able to apply for this visa you need to submit an expression of interest and then be invited through SkillSelect to apply. You can be in or outside Australia when you apply and when the visa is granted. This is a permanent residence visa.

 

Application Requirement

  • Under 50 years of age at the point of application

  • Nominated an occupation that is on the relevant skilled occupation list

  • Obtained a suitable skills assessment for that occupation

  • Achieved a score of at least 60 points or the score specified in your letter of invitation based on the factors in the points test

  • Proof to have at least competent English

  • Meet the health requirement

190 Skilled Nominated Visa

 

The Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) is a permanent residence visa for points-test skilled workers who want to work and live in Australia after being nominated by an Australian state or territory government agency. To be able to apply for this visa you need to submit an expression of interest and then be invited through SkillSelect to apply.

 

Application Requirement

  • Have been nominated by an Australian state or territory government agency and received an invitation to apply for this visa.

  • Nominated an occupation that is on the relevant skilled occupation list.

  • Obtained a suitable skills assessment for that occupation.

  • Under 50 years of age.

  • Achieved the score specified in your letter of invitation based on the factors in the points test

  • Proof to have at least competent English

 

489 Skilled-Regional (Provisional) Visa

 

The Skilled-Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 489) is for skilled workers and their families to live, work and study in specified regional areas in Australia for four years. An opportunity to apply for permanent residency visa under subclass 887 is available if you have lived in Australia for 2 years and worked in a full-time position for at least 1 year.

 

The Invited Pathway has two streams

  • Nominated by an Australian State or Territory government agency.

  • Sponsored by an eligible relative living in a designated area of Australia.

 

Application Requirement for Invited Pathway (if invited)

  • Been nominated by an Australian State or Territory government agency or sponsored by an eligible relative living in a designated area.

  • Nominated an occupation that is on the relevant skilled occupation list

  • A suitable skills assessment for that occupation.

  • Under 50 years of age.

  • Achieved the score specified in your letter of invitation based on the factors in the points test.

  • Proof to have at least competent English.
